Bespoke education since 2005

An education shaped to the individual mind.

Rigorous, one-to-one teaching and admissions strategy, composed for one student at a time.

Our philosophy

Every student is different. Their education should be too.

Most tutoring is built for one kind of student — steady pace, standard path, tidy fit. It works for some and fails plenty of others. We get to know the student first, then bring in only the help that fits. Nothing off a shelf.

Depending on what they need, that might mean

  • Admissions Strategy
  • Academic Tutoring
  • Learning Differences Support
  • Executive Functioning
  • Test Preparation
  • Educational Planning
  • Family Consulting

We teach one student, one tutor, for years

I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think.

Socrates

  • Personal, one-on-one
  • Specific to the student
  • Measured in years

Elisabeth Gray, Founder & Director

Elisabeth Gray

Founder & Director

At Oxford, Elisabeth found the one-on-one tutorial — the Socratic Method in place of rote memorization, teaching her to think for herself. In 2005 she founded Oxford Tutors to bring it to students in the U.S., from high-achievers seeking challenge to complex learners in systems not built for them.

  • Oxford University  BA (Hons), English Literature
  • Yale University  M.Div, Theology & Literature

How the work begins, and how it lasts.

  1. 01

    Discovery Consultation

We start with a conversation — the student, the goals, what is really getting in the way. No forms, no automated scheduling. A person, from the first call.

  2. 02

    Personalized Strategy

One roadmap across academics, testing, executive functioning, and admissions. Not a package of sessions — a plan built around how your child actually learns.

  3. 03

    Expert Team Assignment

A senior tutor matched by subject and by temperament, with specialists around them. Senior mentors set the strategy; tutors do the teaching, day to day.

  4. 04

    Long-Term Partnership

Most families stay four to six years, from middle school through college and past it. The work grows as the student does.

The right education begins with one conversation.

Schedule a discovery call. We’ll tell you honestly what we see, and how we can help.

We read every note ourselves and reply within two business days.

A 30-minute, no-obligation conversation. We never share what you tell us.
